LINE, a listed Japan-based messenger app operator, plans issuing blockchain-based original coins(tokens) further to build its ecosystem “LINE Token Economy” , according to its announcements.
The major Japanese messenger app company already made a partnership with a South Korea-based blockchain project ICON to form a JV via LINE’s subsidiary LINE PLUS in this May, and the subsidiary established a new company “unblock” in April to develop the blockchain business per its previous announcements.
Meanwhile, LINE has made an announcement to launch its cryptocurrency Exchange BITBOX.
BITBOX, started its service since this July, is tradable for 30 different cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, BCH, and LTC. BITBOX service is globally available except in Japan and US, and 15 languages except Japanese also used, according to its website.
BITBOX is managed by LINE’s Singapore-based subsidiary LINE Tech Plus.
LINE, which is listed on NYSE and TSE, has a market cap of about JPY 1.1 trn (USD 10bn).
