gumi, a listed Tokyo Japanese online game developer, entered into cryptocurrency and blockchain business via its subsidiary, according to the announcement.
Cryptocurrency business would help gumi expand its business partly via developing related contents, and the Japanese game company would seek a partnership with various technology companies.
gumi ventures, its wholly-owned corporate venture capital firm, has already set up a new investment fund gumi Cryptos in this February, and gumi Cryptos, raised around USD30m, would make an investment into blockchain-related technology companies.
gumi Crypto already invested on US-based blockchain companies such as Basis, Robot Cache, Origin Protocol, and Pryze.
The JPY 25bn(USD230m) market cap firm has not yet specified on the blockchain-based content development plan.
gumi posted group sales of about JPY 27bn for the year ended in April 2018.
