Token News Pursues Official Partnership With University of the Philippines for Blockchain Technology

MANILA, Sept. 18, 2019—Token News PH Consultancy, Inc., a leading start-up in the field of blockchain technology, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for scholarship with UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc.  (UP ERDFI) last Sept. 13, 2019, with the presence of Dean Ferdie Manegdeg and UP ERDFI President Rico Trinidad.

The scholarship will cover five study grants for students, prioritizing those taking engineering and computer science courses, in their final two years of studies. This will require and enable them to study and enroll in the university’s blockchain elective courses and pursue extra-curricular activities that will enhance their knowledge about the said technology.

UP ERDFI Director Engineer Tito Aliga expressed his appreciation during the MOA signing:

Thank you, Token News for exciting our U.P. Engineering faculty and students to enable the magic of blockchain help in building better engineering and computing scientists for a better Philippines and a better world!

The scholarship certificate for the chosen students will be awarded during the Token News Conference, titled Decentralizing the Future, on November 10, 2019.

The MOA is one of the key items that were agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that Token News PH and UP Diliman signed in August 2019.

Another key item to be implemented within the official MOU is establishing the Center of Blockchain Research and Applications (COBRA). This will be a research laboratory dedicated to studying blockchain, and will be headed by Department of Computer Science (DCS) professor Adrian Roy Valdez, to be assisted by DCS Chairman Dr. Jaymar Soriano. Token News PH is closely working with them to move this project forward.

Other notable areas of possible collaborations within the official MOU includes proposal for a blockchain course and/or organizing blockchain workshops and hackathons within the university.

Having an official partnership with the only national university in the country puts Token News  PH a step further in accomplishing its mission to position the Philippines as the technology hub for blockchain in the global market.
