According to the press release, the decentralized reward program will be implemented in time for upcoming 2019-20 season.
Under the partnership, Blockparty will track the engagements and collect the points of Kings fans in a virtual wallet in each of their Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center app. The rewards will be based on the accumulated points of Call the Shot users.
The rewards, which are non-transferrable and have no monetary value, can be used to claim prizes, such as signed merchandise and courtside tickets, and attend events.
Users can enroll in the rewards program for free.
“We have only just begun to see the benefits of blockchain technology as it transforms the way business is conducted worldwide, ensuring secure transactions across multiple sectors and customers,” said Vivek Ranadivé, Sacramento Kings chairman, CEO and governor.
The move is part of the Kings’ efforts in promoting the use of technology in sports. The basketball team accepted Bitcoin as a form of payment in the Kings Team Store in 2014 and mined and donated cryptocurrency in the MiningForGood program in 2018.
Sacramento Kings launched Call the Shot in 2016 in partnership with Xperiel.
