Dapper Labs Unveils Flow Blockchain Platform for Decentralized Apps, Games

Dapper Labs, the game developer behind top collectible DApp game CryptoKitties, has unveiled that it has developed a new blockchain platform called Flow, which is intended to support various decentralized apps and games.

According to the company’s press release, some of the projects that Flow will potentially host include platforms allowing artists or bands using crypto tokens to help fans to show their fandom, games rewarding players for contributing in the gaming ecosystem, and sites enabling sports fans to trade digital memorabilia.

Game developer Animoca Brands will be one of the first game companies to build apps on Flow.

“Bitcoin and Ethereum show how crypto can make the world of finance more open and transparent; Flow will do the same for consumers of entertainment and culture,” Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou said.

Gharegozlou also explained in a Medium post that Flow was developed as a way of eliminating issues with interactivity between smart contracts in games or social networks due to blockchain sharding.

Dapper Labs plans to officially launch Flow and potentially some of its entertainment, music, and gaming projects in 2020.

Aside from Flow, Dapper Labs also revealed that it has raised $11 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto fund and a pool of new and existing investors, which includes Accomplice, AppWorks, Autonomous Partners, Fenbushi Digital, and Warner Music Group.
